WWI Writing Competition

Welcome aspiring young writers and poets. Thank you for your interest in the WWI writing contest.

We’re looking for an outstanding piece of short fiction of up to 500 words or a memorable poem on the theme of WWI. While there are no specific guidelines beyond that, we encourage you to tell a story of WWI that matters to you. Write something you believe in. Tell a story that only you can tell. Our judges have no specific criteria in mind other than to look for excellence. In other words, write something about war time that moves you, that dazzles you, that says precisely what you want to say specifically the way you want to say it.

Eligibility:  The writing contest is open to all students in the following ages:

1.    Primary up to year 6.

2.    Intermediate: year 7 & 8

3.    College years: 9-13

Each entrant must email their writing. With a cover page stating your name, age, address to

 All work remains the original work of the entrant and must not have been previously published.

 At the discretion of the Museum, all submissions may be published and displayed in the Community Hall on ANZAC day. Entrants retain copyright on their own individual work. Only one entry per person will be accepted. 

The competition is open from Thursday, 25th February to Closing date Thursday, 31st March.   Prize Giving is sponsored by the Katikati  RSA .
